IWFS and Massimo Bruno’s Supper Club Oct 19th, 2020, 6:30 PM

This event proved to be very successful, and better than I would have ever imagined. The dinner banter was exclusively about the food and the wine. Thanks to the amusing and informative input from the Chef Massimo Bruno in true Italian form and the congenial banter of our Cellar Master Rob Richards who does his homework before the event to make the wines just that much more interesting with anecdotal stories about the producers and their vineyards.

The event was carried over Zoom for the participants with 24 members and 6 guests. The food delivery process went flawlessly with 5 different wines decanted to individual portions (into small labeled bottles) for each participant. The dinner portions were more than adequate with directions on how to serve with which wine and at what temperature. I found the comparison of the  2006 Mazzei Castello di Fonterutoli Chianti Classico vs. 2008 Mazzei Castello di Fonterutoli Chianti Classico (Wine #3 & #4) particular interesting given the same wine but very different weather conditions for the two years. This was the highlight of the evening for me, Bravo Rob!

Massimo, The dinner was so “Italian” with the many courses starting in true fashion with a superbe Antipasto which is the traditional first course of a formal Italian meal. Typical ingredients of a traditional antipasto include cured meats, peperoncini and various cheeses. This antipasto was all made locally in the Toronto area. We are so lucky to have a forward thinking immigration policy!
