The IWFS, again this year, had a spectacular Garden Reception at the amazing Garden of Philip and Martha Russel. The Garden of course was in its finest bloom of late Summer and I am sure as close to Eden as is humanly possible. The delightful nibbles were expertly prepared for the event by By Elena DiPasquale of Elena’s Catering with of course, nothing being forbidden.
The Event hosted 43 Members and Guests for what will be heralded as the kick-off to another exciting banner year of Culinary arts excellence in Toronto. This of course being under the expert guidance of your President, Chris Tierney and our Cellar Master, Marcel Bregstein.
We had the pleasure of honouring the top Sommelier of the year Michael Valaitis, as chosen by Canadian Association of Professional Sommeliers, Michael hails from Saskatchewan. Michael was accompanied by the charming Nicole Bereti. The top graduate Honours in The Culinary Management Course at George Brown College goes to Alanna Pawsey, who was accompanied by her husband Julien Tercier. Alanna, we are told, scored noting less than 100% in every exam she wrote for Marcel Bregstein, IWFS Cellar Master and teacher at George Brown College. Toronto and Canada are fortunate to have such enthusiastic young people carrying the Culinary arts to a level of excellence in Canada that allows us to challenge the world.
